With familial ties to both Adelaide and Melbourne, Mary has spent much of the past few years travelling between the two, establishing a reputation as an innovative performer and songwriter. A strong background in classical and choral music has her in good stead, though her music now also suggests Jazz and Folk have been powerful influences. Mary’s songs are thoughtful yet frank, exploring human fragility, self-discovery and connection.
Mary’s new album ‘Love Like Planets’ was recorded at Snowghost Studios in Montana, USA with studio owner and engineer Brett Allen (Death Cab For Cutie, Swell Season, Matmos, Wayne Hotvitz, Justin Townes Earl), and local South Australian producer Mike Kirkham. While her previous releases have been predominantly acoustic, the new album also features an impressive four-piece studio band from Portland, Oregon. Band mates include Cory Gray (keys, trumpet; has played for Darren Hanlon, The Dandy Warhols, Decemberists, Mirah), Daniel Hindman (guitar; co-creator of the band Pure Bathing Culture), Brian Wright (drums; Pure Bathing Culture) and Zachary Tillman (bass; Pearly Gate Music, regularly plays for Fleet Foxes).

Yes - I picked up on Mary’s immaculate phrasing.... crystal clear enunciation ! “I am still absorbing the music” .. “Listening just now” - at 10:30pm Saturday. I keep hearing more nuance with every listen to the cd.....it is like peeling back an onion and revealing another level of musicality.. ‘Crepuscule’ the piano sounds like it is in the room through the big Diapasons.. Noise floor, there is zero digital hash that one attributes to the format !! Such a natural recording with a vastness of space.. Mary’s voice is main instrument ! She isn’t drowning in digitally enhanced echo and reverb like so many female and male performers we hear today......... ( This recording has really hit home to me how shit 95% of the material produced today .... “Soulless” .... All Pro Tools, endless - effects, etc, etc.. ) ‘Love Like Planets’ the real strength lies in the quality of the songs and their first-class delivery - singing intimately to the listener (me) on this very cold, white frost, Scottish winter night and melting my heart....... A truly great album.. Blown me away !
